Amanda Palmer’s The Art Of Asking: From Ted Talk To Book Release

the-art-of-asking-amanda-palmerInevitably when I post about not posting I then almost immediately have an awesome reason to post. It took a few hours after my previous post, which remains true, but I finally realized that Amanda Palmer has a new book coming tomorrow called “The Art of Asking” based on her powerful Ted Talk of the same name.

It seems to be getting plenty of coverage but I haven’t actually seen anything in the music industry press which surprises me though I could have missed it.

Though the book and talk have stories going back to her early street performances, at least I’m assuming those are included in the book, the event that set this current phase in motion was her million dollar plus Kickstarter campaign that made music crowdfunding history.

Palmer’s also embarking on a musical book tour. You can find the schedule here.

If you find the cover a bit tame, she shared some alternate covers here and here that possibly fit her reputation a bit better. In a good way or I wouldn’t mention it in this particular post.

Palmer’s been doing some interviews but I think we’ll get better coverage during the tour so I’ll do a roundup later on.

You can see the Ted Talk below:

“Amanda Palmer: The art of asking”

“”Don’t make people pay for music, says Amanda Palmer. Let them. In a passionate talk that begins in her days as a street performer (drop a dollar in the hat for the Eight-Foot Bride!), she examines the new relationship between artist and fan.”
